Storage Heater Grants Cumbria

The Government’s ECO Scheme – Storage Heater Grants Cumbria was introduced to:

  • Help householders who receive State Benefits or Tax Credits to cut their heating bills by awarding grants to replace inefficient and faulty boilers and electric storage heaters. ECO Scheme grants are also available to install cavity wall insulation and loft insulation.
  • Reduce carbon emissions from homes by reducing energy usage.

The Storage Heater Grants Cumbria Scheme offers grants to households to replace faulty electric storage heaters with modern, energy efficient, high heat retention electric storage heaters.

The Storage Heater Grants Cumbria Scheme is due to run until September 2018 but a Government consultation is taking place to consider whether it will continue for a further four years.

The Government's ECO Scheme

The ECO Scheme was introduced in 2013 and in its current version is due to end in September 2018. A consultation is underway to consider whether it will continue for a further four years with perhaps a greater emphasis on dealing with fuel poverty.

The ECO Scheme provides grants to qualifying households to replace:

and to install:

The ECO Storage Heater Grants Cumbria Scheme forms part of the Government’s commitment to reduce carbon emissions from homes in the UK in an effort to reduce the effects of climate change.

ECO Scheme funding is provided by the main energy companies who place a levy on every householder’s electricity bill. However, in an effort to keep energy bills down, ECO funding has been cut back and grants may not cover the full cost of installing energy saving measures in your home.

As a result, some householders may be asked to contribute towards the cost of installing new storage heaters.
