Storage Heater Grant Qualifying Criteria

To qualify for a Storage Heater Grant you must satisfy ALL 3 of the ECO Scheme's rules, with regard to:

Storage heater grant qualifying criteria with regard to your home:

You MUST live in your own home to qualify for a storage heater grant.

Rented Properties

Householders in privately rented homes, council properties, housing association properties and shared ownership homes do not qualify for this scheme.

Other grants may be available from your energy supplier or your local council.

Private tenants should contact their landlord who has a legal duty to provide a working heating system.

Proof of ownership

Your ECO Accredited storage heater installer will require documentary evidence that you own in the property for which you are applying for a Storage Heater Grant.  This may be the deeds to your home if you own it or a mortgage agreement if applicable.

Storage heater grant qualifying criteria. You must receive at least one of the following:

  • Pension Credit – Guaranteed Credit
  • Pension Credit – Savings Credit
  • Universal Credit
  • Child Tax Credit
  • Working Tax Credit
  • Income Support
  • Income-Related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Income-Based Job Seeker’s Allowance
  • Child Benefit ( subject to income thresholds)

Storage heater grant qualifying criteria with regard to your heaters: The electric storage heaters currently installed in your home must be faulty at the time of your free ECO Survey.

The Storage Heater Grant Scheme is a ‘New for Old’ replacement scheme.

If you do not currently have electric night storage heaters installed in your home, you will not qualify for a Storage Heater Grant.

ECO Scheme Grants are available for other types of heating system as well as for wall and roof insulation. More information about these grants can be found on the Affordable Warmth Scheme website.

The results of your free survey and ECO Scheme rules will determine how many storage heaters are recommended to be installed. This may differ from the number you currently have due to the improved efficiency of modern storage heaters.

The Application Process

3. After the survey your ECO Accredited Installer will apply for ECO Funding to be released for your new storage heaters.
